Friendship Cricket Series with Youth of Kuchchaveli

During our visit to Trincomalee on 8 August 2017, the Hadawathe Janadhipathi Mahinda (HJM) Team participated in a friendship cricket series with the Kuchchaveli Sports Club. The primary objective of the programme was to strengthen friendship, mutual understanding, and unity among young people from different communities through sport.

Although the HJM Team lost the series , the greatest achievement of the event was not the final score but the friendships and mutual respect that developed between the participants.

The matches provided an opportunity for meaningful conversations with the Tamil youth of Kuchchaveli. Through these discussions, it became clear that they shared a common aspiration—to live together peacefully, respectfully, and in unity as fellow Sri Lankans. The event demonstrated how sport can serve as a bridge between communities, creating opportunities for dialogue and long-term friendship.

Special appreciation is extended to our friend Nalaka from Matale, whose dedication and commitment made the successful organisation of this friendship series possible. The programme remains a memorable example of how sport can promote reconciliation, cultural understanding, and national unity among Sri Lanka's diverse communities.
