Supporting Mobile COVID-19 Vaccination in Walpita

Date: 12 August 2021
Location: Walpita
Activity: Supporting a mobile COVID-19 vaccination programme
During the COVID-19 pandemic, accessing vaccination services was particularly difficult for elderly people and others who had limited mobility or were unable to travel to vaccination centres. On 12 August 2021, a mobile vaccination service was carried out in the Walpita area to help people facing such difficulties.
Dhana and I assisted by transporting several people who were unable to travel easily on their own so that they could receive their vaccinations. The photographs from the day record this effort, including healthcare personnel administering a vaccine beside the vehicle.
Compared with some of the larger community projects I was involved in during this period, this was a simple act of assistance. However, helping someone overcome a practical barrier to receiving an essential health service made it meaningful to me.
It remains one of the memories from the pandemic that reminds me that community service does not always have to be a large project. Sometimes, simply being available to help someone reach the service they need can make a meaningful difference.
