Our Vesak Decorations Shop – Welipillawa

During the 2018 Vesak season, my wife and I set up and operated a small Vesak decorations shop at Welipillawa Junction. It became one of those simple but beautiful experiences in our life together.

We sold a variety of items for Vesak, including lanterns, coloured paper, Buddhist flags and decorative lights. One of our aims was to make Vesak decorations available to people at affordable prices.

For around ten days, the two of us managed the shop together—from arranging the merchandise and preparing the displays to serving customers and decorating the shop with colourful lights at night. Although it was only a temporary seasonal shop, running it together gave us a very different and enjoyable experience.

When evening arrived and the little shop was illuminated by colourful Vesak lights, the entire place took on a special atmosphere. Despite the work involved, those days gave us the happiness of creating something together and seeing it operate successfully.

Looking back, the Vesak season of 2018 remains a collection of beautiful memories—about working together, enjoying the simplicity of the experience, and sharing another little chapter of life side by side.
