“Goal” Film Premiere

Date: 26 July 2018
Occasion: Premiere of the Sinhala film Goal

On 26 July 2018, I had the opportunity to attend the premiere of the Sinhala film “Goal.”

Written and directed by Rohan Perera, Goal featured veteran performers including Jayalath Manoratne, Chandani Seneviratne and Kaushalya Fernando, together with a group of young actors. The story centres on children at a rural school whose lives begin to change when a teacher introduces them to football.

The young cast was also presented during the premiere, and my photographs preserve moments from the event, including the children associated with the film. Being among members of the cinema community, invited guests and those connected with the production gave me an opportunity to experience the atmosphere surrounding the first presentation of a new Sinhala film to its audience.

With my long-standing interest in Sri Lankan cinema, occasions such as this have become an important part of my personal collection of cinema-related memories. The “Goal” premiere remains one of those memorable experiences from 2018.
