Sharing Birthday Happiness with Children of Mawathagama Vidyalaya

Date: April 18, 2015
Location: Mawathagama Vidyalaya, Sri Lanka
Programme: Birthday celebration with children
My Contribution: Selection and coordination of participating schoolchildren
Special Appreciation: Ajantha Jayasinghe and Amali
In April 2015, my dear friend Ajantha Jayasinghe approached me with a thoughtful request. Rather than celebrating his daughter's birthday only within the family, he wished to share the occasion with children of a similar age.
He asked me to help identify a group of children who could participate in this special celebration. In response, I selected a group of Grade 3 students from Mawathagama Vidyalaya and helped coordinate their participation.
The celebration took place on April 18, 2015, creating an opportunity for the children to enjoy a memorable day filled with games, laughter and friendship.
The children participated in entertaining activities, wore colourful party hats, played with balloons and enjoyed birthday refreshments together. The occasion offered them a different experience from their usual school routine.
What made this event particularly meaningful to me was the kindness behind it. Ajantha and Amali had chosen to extend their family's happiness to other children, turning a personal birthday celebration into an opportunity to bring joy to others.
I remain sincerely grateful to both of them for their generosity and for the effort they made to create such a memorable experience for these children.
In Loving Memory of Ajantha Jayasinghe
Sadly, my dear friend Ajantha Jayasinghe later passed away following an illness.
His passing was a deeply sorrowful loss. However, the kindness he showed to these children and the happiness he helped create remain among my treasured memories of him.
I believe that one of the most meaningful legacies a person can leave behind is the happiness and kindness they bring into the lives of others.
This birthday celebration remains a beautiful example of that legacy.
May my dear friend Ajantha Jayasinghe attain the supreme bliss of Nibbana.
