Project Overview

Lanka Images by Anuruddha Bandara was designed and developed by Isura Wickramarachchi in 2007 as a professional online photography portfolio showcasing the work of Sri Lankan photographer Anuruddha Bandara. The website was created to present his growing collection of wildlife, landscape, travel, architectural, and nature photography while providing an easy way for visitors to browse galleries and order high-quality photographic prints.

The project served as both a personal portfolio and a commercial platform, allowing the photographer to promote his work to local and international audiences.

Design & Structure

The website was designed with the philosophy that the photographs should always remain the centre of attention.

A clean layout featuring black, white, and natural green colour tones created a neutral background that enhanced the vibrancy of every photograph without distracting the viewer. Large featured images occupied the main content area, while smaller preview thumbnails on the right encouraged visitors to explore additional galleries.

The homepage combined a professional introduction, photographer profile, featured image categories, and rotating image previews in a balanced layout that made navigation simple and intuitive. Natural leaf graphics and earthy colours subtly reinforced the themes of wildlife, forests, and Sri Lanka's natural beauty.

Unique Design Concept

Unlike many photography websites of the period that relied on heavy Flash animations, this project focused on clean presentation and maximum image visibility. Every design decision was made to support the photographs rather than compete with them.

The homepage immediately showcased a large featured photograph, while visitors could quickly browse different photography categories including:
