Town Creek Marina
Project Overview
The Town Creek Marina website was designed and developed in 2005 by Isura Wickramarachchi in collaboration with Webb & Flow (USA) as the official online presence for a full-service marina located in Beaufort, North Carolina. The website was created to promote the marina's facilities, yacht charter services, new and used boat sales, dockage, storage, maintenance services, and waterfront amenities to both local boat owners and visiting mariners. Town Creek Marina has been a full-service marina in Beaufort since the mid-1990s, offering dockage, storage, boat sales, repairs, and waterfront services.
Developed as a static HTML website, the project combined professional presentation with an engaging visual identity, giving visitors an attractive overview of the marina while providing easy access to its wide range of boating services.
Design & Structure
One of the most distinctive aspects of the website is its nautical-inspired interface, which captures the atmosphere of a premium marina rather than presenting information through a conventional corporate layout.
The homepage is divided into two contrasting visual areas. A dark vertical navigation panel on the left highlights the marina's branding with marine-inspired graphics, while the large content area on the right provides an open and spacious layout for photographs and service information. This contrast creates a strong visual hierarchy and naturally guides visitors through the website.
A panoramic marina photograph stretches across the top of the content area, immediately introducing the waterfront environment. Gold accents, maritime illustrations, and elegant typography reinforce the premium boating lifestyle associated with the marina.
The left sidebar also incorporates promotional graphics for fishing tournaments and the marina's waterfront restaurant, integrating multiple business services into one cohesive visual experience.

Significance
The Town Creek Marina project demonstrates how a marina and marine services business could establish a strong online identity through original visual storytelling rather than conventional corporate web design. By combining waterfront photography, custom nautical graphics, and a carefully planned interface, the website successfully communicated both the professional services offered by the marina and the relaxed lifestyle associated with coastal boating.
The project reflects Isura Wickramarachchi's philosophy of creating unique, handcrafted websites tailored to each client's industry and brand identity. Its innovative split-layout concept, maritime-themed graphics, and immersive visual presentation made it stand out among boating and marina websites of the mid-2000s. More than two decades later, the archived website remains an excellent example of early hospitality and marine industry web design, demonstrating how thoughtful interface design could effectively combine branding, functionality, and user experience.
Town Creek Marina is located in Beaufort, just over the draw bridge from Morehead City, NC and 1-½ miles from the inlet at ST mile 202.
