AI Historical Reconstruction
One of the most significant additions to the platform is the introduction of AI-generated historical portraits.
Following extensive historical research using archaeological evidence, ancient chronicles, sculptures, paintings, inscriptions, literary references, and scholarly studies, AI-assisted visual reconstructions were created to present realistic artistic interpretations of Sri Lankan kings and queens. These visualisations were designed to help modern audiences better connect with historical figures while clearly serving as researched artistic reconstructions rather than verified historical photographs.
Mahawansa Pradeepikawa Integration
The redesigned website became fully integrated with the Mahawansa Pradeepikawa project.
Visitors can seamlessly explore historical information online while accessing expanded research presented in the book, creating a unified educational experience that combines printed scholarship with continuously updated digital content.
The platform acts as the digital companion to the publication by providing:
- Extended historical articles
- Additional references
- Updated research
- Multimedia resources
- AI historical illustrations
- Interactive navigation between related historical topics
Project Overview
The 2025 redesign of Mahawansaya.com represents the culmination of nearly two decades of historical research and digital innovation by Isura Wickramarachchi. The website not only expanded its historical database but also introduced a more engaging and immersive way of learning. Through interactive content, AI-assisted historical visualisations, multimedia resources, and integration with the Mahawansa Pradeepikawa, the platform enables users to experience Sri Lankan history in ways that were previously unavailable through conventional educational websites.

Significance
The 2025 redesign of Mahawansaya.com represents the most advanced stage in the platform's evolution since its original launch in 2008. More than a website redesign, it reflects Isura Wickramarachchi's continuing mission to transform the way Sri Lankan history is researched, preserved, and experienced in the digital age.
The introduction of AI-generated historical reconstructions marked a significant milestone for the project. Following extensive historical study and careful analysis of available evidence, artistic visualisations of kings and queens were created to help visitors form a deeper connection with Sri Lanka's historical figures. These reconstructions complement the written historical record by providing a powerful visual interpretation of the nation's past.
Another major advancement was the full integration of the website with the Mahawansa Pradeepikawa project. Together, the website and the book create a unified educational platform where readers can move seamlessly between printed historical research and continuously expanding digital resources. The website extends the book through additional articles, multimedia content, AI illustrations, updated research, and interactive exploration, ensuring that historical knowledge continues to evolve beyond the printed page.
The addition of historical videos, educational media, expanded biographies, enhanced kingdom information, royal family trees, and richer historical references transformed the platform into a comprehensive digital heritage resource suitable for students, educators, researchers, historians, and the general public.
Originally recognised nationally when Mahawansaya.com was selected among the Top 20 Most Popular Websites in Sri Lanka at the 2010 LK Domain Registry Best Web Competition, the platform has continued to grow into one of the country's most significant online historical initiatives. Through continuous innovation, historical research, and the thoughtful application of modern technologies, Mahawansaya.com demonstrates how digital platforms can preserve cultural heritage while making more than 2,500 years of Sri Lankan history accessible, engaging, and relevant for future generations.
