Hadawathe Sihinaya – Kurupanawa Primary School, Udugama

The 11th Computer for Children Studying with Limited Facilities
Date: 23 September 2020
School: Kurupanawa Primary School, Udugama
District: Galle
Project: Hadawathe Sihinaya – Computer Project
Milestone: 11th computer donated through the project
The 11th computer of the “Hadawathe Sihinaya” Computer Project was donated to the children of Kurupanawa Primary School in Udugama, Galle District, on 23 September 2020.
This visit became a particularly personal memory for me. Seeing the children studying with very limited facilities reminded me of my own school days. Although the resources available to them were modest, their enthusiasm and the commitment surrounding their education made a strong impression on me.
The school had already been informed that it had been selected to receive a computer. However, the principal told me that they had not truly believed the computer would actually arrive. That made the moment when the computer was finally handed over to the children even more meaningful.
The Hadawathe Sihinaya journey often required spending days away from home, travelling long distances and working through the resulting tiredness. Yet moments like this made that effort worthwhile. Seeing the happiness on the children’s faces gave me a sense of joy that was difficult to put into words. Being able to contribute, even in a small way, towards their education and their opportunity to experience technology was what mattered most.
My special thanks also go to Nadeesha Lakmal Dissanayaka, who provided me with information about this school and helped bring its needs to my attention.
“Even after spending days away from home, however tired I may be, seeing the happiness on these children’s faces brings an overwhelming sense of joy. May these little children see the future.”
