Supporting the Education of Young Novice Monks Through Technology
Date: 18 September 2020
Location: Jinodaya Pirivena, Palugaswewa – Eppawala
District: Anuradhapura
Project: Hadawathe Sihinaya – Computer Project
On 18 September 2020, another computer from the “Hadawathe Sihinaya” Computer Project was donated to Jinodaya Pirivena at Palugaswewa, Eppawala, in the Anuradhapura District.
The Pirivena was continuing its educational work despite limited resources and various difficulties. During the visit, I could see the effort being made by the head monk to develop the institution and provide a better learning environment for the young novice monks studying there.
Seeing the novice monks studying in their classroom alongside other children, and later gathering around the newly donated computer, made this visit particularly memorable. My hope was that the computer would provide them with another opportunity to gain knowledge, experience technology and broaden the resources available for their education.
Through the Hadawathe Sihinaya project, being able to support not only schoolchildren but also young novice monks receiving Pirivena education was a special privilege for me. Even a relatively small contribution can become meaningful when it reaches children and young monks who are eager to learn despite limited facilities.
May this computer support the educational journey of these young novice monks, and may their future be enriched by both knowledge and good values.
My sincere thanks to Achi Harshani, who provided us with information about the Pirivena and helped make this contribution possible.
