Hadawathe Sihinaya – Imbulgoda Primary School, Rathgama

Opening a Door to Technology for Young Children
Date: 22 September 2020
School: Imbulgoda Primary School, Rathgama
District: Galle
Project: Hadawathe Sihinaya – Computer Project
Organised by: Isura Wickramarachchi Foundation
As part of the “Hadawathe Sihinaya” Computer Project, another computer was donated to the children of Imbulgoda Primary School in Rathgama, Galle District, on 22 September 2020.
One of the things that impressed me most during this visit was the effort made by the principal to develop and improve the school. The classrooms had been arranged in a pleasant and child-friendly manner, reflecting the care taken to create an encouraging learning environment for the young students.
Children, teachers and parents were present for the occasion. I also had the opportunity to speak with the students and see their enthusiasm firsthand. The computer was handed over and installed at the school so that it could become a practical educational resource for the children.
Providing children with an opportunity to become familiar with computers from their primary-school years can help broaden their learning opportunities and introduce them to the technological world they will encounter in the future. For that reason, I considered it a privilege to be able to provide a computer to these young students through the Hadawathe Sihinaya project.
My heartfelt thanks also go to Sampath Abeygunawardena of Rathgama, who brought this school and its needs to my attention.
