ED Support Organization
Project Overview
The ED Support Organization website was designed and developed in 2006 by Isura Wickramarachchi as the official online presence for a charitable organization established to provide educational assistance and financial support to underprivileged children.
Developed as a static HTML website, the project was created to communicate the organization's mission, encourage public participation, and provide transparency regarding its educational support programmes. The website introduced the organization's vision, activities, news updates, and contact information while promoting its commitment to helping financially disadvantaged students continue their education.
Unlike many charity websites of the period that consisted mainly of text-heavy pages, ED Support was designed to communicate hope, trust, and opportunity through a clean, modern visual identity that reflected the organization's educational mission.
Design & Structure
The website features a bright, modern, and optimistic design, centred around themes of education, growth, and social responsibility. The homepage combines clean typography with smooth graphical curves and carefully balanced colour blocks, creating an inviting atmosphere that immediately reflects the organization's purpose.
One of the most distinctive visual elements is the flowing blue and orange header, which symbolically represents hope, progress, and positive change. The organization's logo is positioned prominently within the header, reinforcing its identity while maintaining a professional corporate appearance.
The homepage follows a structured three-column layout. A vertical navigation panel on the left provides quick access to the main sections, while the central content area introduces the organization's vision and ongoing work. The layout is intentionally simple, ensuring that visitors can quickly understand the organization's objectives without distraction.
The colour palette combines blue, orange, white, and soft grey, creating a balanced visual identity that conveys both trust and optimism—qualities especially important for charitable organizations.
Unique Design Concept
Rather than relying on emotional imagery alone, the website focused on professional credibility and transparency, presenting the organization as a trustworthy institution committed to supporting children's education.

Significance
The ED Support Organization project demonstrates Isura Wickramarachchi's ability to create meaningful digital platforms for nonprofit and educational organizations. Rather than treating the website as a simple information portal, the design focused on building public confidence through clean presentation, structured information, and strong visual branding.
The project reflects Isura's design philosophy that charitable organizations deserve the same level of professional branding and user experience as commercial businesses. Through its modern interface, carefully balanced layout, and optimistic visual identity, the website effectively communicated the organization's mission of supporting disadvantaged children while encouraging community participation and donor confidence.
More than two decades later, the project remains an excellent example of early nonprofit web design, illustrating how thoughtful branding, simplicity, and clear information architecture could help charitable organizations establish a credible and engaging online presence.
The EdSupport Organization is non-profit organization founded by a group of MBA students of University of Colombo in March 2006. The purpose of the organization is to collect a sufficient amount of funds to donate to students those who excel academically but whose financial status can be classified as poor.
The initial age group which becomes eligible for a grant/donation would be students who are studying in the year 5 in government schools in Sri Lanka. The organization has decided that academic excellence can be measured by the amount of marks they score at the Year Five scholarship program conducted by the Department of Examinations – Sri Lanka.
Requirements of students will be identified will be identified by a study carried out in remote districts and the needy students will be identified by calling for applications from students directly with the through government schools. The board of directors will set out criteria for the selection of students among the applicants.
