Roots Website
Project Overview
The ROOTS website was designed and developed in 2005 by Isura Wickramarachchi as the official online presence for ROOTS Fresh Juice Bar, a healthy beverage brand in Sri Lanka. The website was created to introduce the company's fresh fruit juice products, nutritional values, quality standards, production process, retail outlets, and brand philosophy through a vibrant and engaging online experience.
Developed as a static HTML website, the project combined product promotion with lifestyle branding. Rather than simply displaying product information, the website was designed to communicate freshness, health, and natural living through an original visual concept that reflected the identity of the ROOTS brand.
Design & Structure
The website features a fresh, nature-inspired design that immediately communicates the brand's focus on healthy fruit beverages. Unlike many food and beverage websites of the mid-2000s, which often relied on conventional layouts and product catalogues, the ROOTS website adopted a highly creative presentation where the interface itself became part of the brand experience.
The homepage is centered around a large product showcase, featuring a refreshing glass of fruit juice as the focal point. Supporting product illustrations, fruit graphics, and beverage images are carefully arranged around the main content, creating a balanced composition that feels colourful, energetic, and inviting.
A vibrant green colour palette dominates the interface, reinforcing ideas of freshness, nature, and healthy living. Rounded corners, soft gradients, glossy highlights, and layered panels give the website a modern appearance that was well ahead of many commercial websites developed during the same period.
The navigation is positioned across the top in a clean horizontal format, allowing visitors to easily explore product information, nutritional content, production processes, outlet locations, and company details.

Significance
The ROOTS project demonstrates how a food and beverage brand could establish a memorable online identity through creative visual storytelling rather than conventional product catalogues. By combining vibrant colours, custom illustrations, and product-focused design, the website successfully communicated the freshness and natural qualities of the brand while creating an enjoyable browsing experience.
The project reflects Isura Wickramarachchi's philosophy of creating unique, handcrafted websites tailored to each client's industry and brand personality. Its distinctive green-themed interface, innovative product presentation, and cohesive visual identity made it stand out among food and beverage websites of the mid-2000s. More than two decades later, the project remains an excellent example of early brand-focused web design, illustrating how creativity and originality could transform a simple product website into a memorable digital experience.
