Gunner Bury School
ABOUT THE PROJECT

Project Overview

The Gunnersbury Catholic School website was designed and developed in 2005 by Isura Wickramarachchi as a fully dynamic school management website, providing an informative and interactive online platform for students, parents, teachers, and prospective families.

The website was developed to present the school's academic programmes, curriculum, pastoral care system, news, events, calendars, and institutional information through a centralized content management system. Unlike conventional school websites of the time that consisted of only a few static pages, this project offered a structured information architecture capable of managing a large volume of regularly updated educational content.

The dynamic platform enabled school administrators to publish announcements, update departmental information, maintain calendars, and manage photographs without rebuilding individual pages.

Design & Structure

The website featured a fresh and vibrant visual identity inspired by education and student life. Rather than adopting a conventional institutional appearance, the interface used bright green and blue colour schemes to create a welcoming and modern environment.

Large rounded graphical elements, gradient backgrounds, and soft visual effects gave the website a contemporary appearance that was distinctive among school websites of the mid-2000s. Every graphic component—including navigation menus, banners, icons, buttons, and page layouts—was custom designed specifically for the project.

The homepage was carefully structured to balance institutional information with regularly updated content, allowing visitors to access important resources with minimal navigation.

Significance

The Gunnersbury Catholic School website represented a modern approach to educational web development at a time when many school websites were limited to simple static pages. Its comprehensive information architecture enabled the school to organize a wide range of academic, administrative, and student-related information within a single, easy-to-manage platform.

The project also demonstrated Isura Wickramarachchi's philosophy of creating unique, purpose-built web solutions rather than relying on generic templates. By combining a distinctive visual identity with dynamic content management, the website became both an effective communication platform and a professional representation of the school's educational environment. It stands as an excellent example of early dynamic educational website development, showcasing how thoughtful design and structured content management could enhance communication between a school and its community.
