ABOUT THE PROJECT

Project Overview

The Foundation of Goodness – Unconditional Compassion website was designed and developed in 2005 by Isura Wickramarachchi as a dynamic ASP-based web application to support the humanitarian work of the Foundation of Goodness following the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. The website served as an international communication platform, connecting relief organizations, corporate donors, volunteers, and individuals with the Foundation's ongoing rehabilitation and rural development projects. The Foundation of Goodness was established to rebuild tsunami-affected communities and promote long-term rural empowerment in Sri Lanka.

Unlike many nonprofit websites of the time, the system was built as a dynamic ASP website, allowing administrators to regularly publish news, project updates, donor information, photographs, and progress reports. The version preserved in the Wayback Machine represents the generated HTML pages produced from the original ASP application.

Design & Structure

The website featured a vibrant and highly recognizable interface that reflected both the humanitarian mission of the organization and the optimism of post-tsunami rebuilding.

The homepage was carefully structured into multiple content areas, allowing visitors to quickly access the Foundation's latest activities while maintaining a visually engaging experience. A large illustrated header featuring Sri Lankan children established an emotional connection with visitors, while the green and blue colour palette symbolized hope, compassion, and growth.

Rather than relying on conventional web templates, every component of the interface was custom designed, including:

  • A completely original, handcrafted layout.
  • Custom-designed navigation menus and graphical buttons.
  • Multi-column homepage presenting news, featured projects, donor information, and relief highlights simultaneously.
  • Sidebar panels promoting international donor agencies and humanitarian partners.
  • Dynamic project listings with "Read More" functionality.
  • Integrated photo galleries and weekly updates.
  • Prominent donation and volunteer call-to-action panels.
  • Consistent branding and colour harmony throughout the website.

The information architecture was designed to accommodate a large volume of frequently updated content while ensuring that visitors could easily navigate between organizational information, donor resources, rehabilitation projects, testimonials, news archives, and photo galleries.

ABOUT THE CLIENT

The Foundation of Goodness is based in Seenigama and has been undertaking projects to empower better opportunities to the rural community for over five years.

The Foundation has a reputation of unquestionable integrity. It has worked with both USAID and AusAID. The myriad of projects undertaken by the Foundation to uplift the standard of living in Seenigama village and its surrounds were all obliterated within minutes by the terrible force of the Tsunami which struck the shores of Sri Lanka on the 26th of December 2004.

You can evaluate the Foundation of Goodness’ previous work by clicking on “empowering better opportunities to the rural community” from the side menu.

Foundation of Goodness is now committed to both the emergency relief and the longer term rebuilding the Seenigama village. The relief coordinated by the Foundation is already making a huge difference in the community - see "Weekly Updates Section" but we still need your help!
