ABOUT THE PROJECT

Project Overview

The UVA Development Society (UVADES) website was designed and developed in 2004 as the organization's official online presence. The website was created to introduce the society, communicate its mission and development initiatives, showcase completed projects, and provide an accessible communication channel for the public and stakeholders.

The website featured a clean and professional design that reflected the organization's commitment to regional development while ensuring visitors could easily navigate and access important information.

Website Structure

The website consisted of the following primary sections:

  • Home – Overview of the organization and its latest information.
  • Who Are We? – Introduction to the Uva Development Society, its vision, mission, and objectives.
  • What Do We Do? – Information about the society's development programmes, community initiatives, and areas of involvement.
  • Selected Work – A showcase of completed projects and notable development activities undertaken by the organization.
  • Our Team – Profiles of the individuals responsible for leading and managing the society.
  • Contact Us – Contact details and an online enquiry form developed using Classic ASP, allowing visitors to communicate directly with the organization.

Design Concept

The website was designed with a clean institutional appearance that emphasized readability, structured navigation, and ease of use. The layout presented information in a logical hierarchy, allowing visitors to quickly understand the organization's purpose and activities.

A balanced colour scheme, simple graphics, and intuitive navigation created a professional online identity suitable for a non-profit development organization.

Development Approach

The website was hand-coded using HTML and CSS, with JavaScript providing basic client-side functionality. While the website itself was primarily static, the Contact Us page incorporated a Classic ASP-based contact form that enabled visitors to submit enquiries directly through the website.

The website was optimized for the web browsers and internet speeds commonly available in 2004, ensuring reliable performance and accessibility.

Designer & Developer Perspective

This project demonstrates my experience in designing and developing professional websites for non-profit and community organizations during the early stages of commercial web development in Sri Lanka. It highlights my ability to create clean, informative, and user-friendly websites while integrating server-side functionality where required. The project reflects the web design standards and development practices of the early 2000s, before content management systems became widely adopted.
